The incident occurred in Bridgeport around 6 a.m., Saturday, April 29 on Atlantic Street near the intersection with Waldemere Avenue.
According to Capt. Kevin Gilleran, of the Bridgeport Police, a 54-year-old Bridgeport man went to an area hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound to the stomach.
The victim told Bridgeport Police officers he was walking on Atlantic Street near its intersection with Waldemere Avenue when he was approached by an unidentified man, Gilleran said.
The man demanded money, shot the victim, and immediately fled the area on foot in an unknown direction, he said.
Nothing was taken.
The victim returned to his car, which was parked close by, and drove himself to the hospital. Gilleran said.
The victim’s injury is reported to be non-life-threatening. He is listed in stable condition.
The Detective Bureau has responded and taken over the investigation.
